The original studio design for Sir Howard Hodgkin in 1989, was an early adopter of Okalux, the panels were assembled on site from the individual elements rather than being produced as a complete unit in the factory. The glazing panels had been fixed within an industrial aluminium patent glazing system which had started to leak. In 2017 on the death of Sir Howard, the Trustees of the Estate decided to refurbish the studio roof and ancillary accommodation in preparation for limited public opening for visitors to the private collection of paintings, archive and memorabilia. A new structural glazing system with larger spans and panels of Okalux, installed to improve the daylighting, as well as artificial lighting. Simultaneously the private house was to be separated from the public spaces, with access to WC and additional security. The result can be compared between the two sets of photographs taken in 1990 and 2019.
